Just Enough Light...

This afternoon I finished my first book of the year. The first book I can remove from my full shelf.
Something brought it to mind this morning as I was sitting at the kitchen table for my morning quiet time.  I kept it close by, reading here and there.  Before I knew it I was turning the last page.

Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On by Stormie Omartian
Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On by Stormie Omartian.

If you have been reading my blog lately you may have noticed I have been going through some struggles.  Hence dusting this book off.  The uncertainty of our future at times feels crushing.  But I am finding {again} God is still there.  God is still in control.  Above all God is Good.  All the Time.

This book stated over and over and over--  How God is there.  Guiding, leading, wanting to direct my steps.  He wants and has good things for us.

I love that each chapter ends with a prayer and scripture {Footlights}.  As I finished each chapter and read each prayer my heart cried, Yes Lord...Amen.

The book doesn't promise everything will magically become better.  Obviously this is a hard, broken world.  But He will grant us the strength we need for each day.  The importance of tapping into His Word and His strength daily.
"Hunger for God’s Word like food. Thirst for it like water. Soak in it like a jacuzzi. Put it on like a garment. Weave it into your soul so that it becomes part of the fabric of your life. When you do, you won’t just be trudging up the trail. You will be dancing in the footlights."  pp51
“When God aims us in a new direction, we have to let go of what we've known, be willing to embrace the unfamiliar, and trust that He will sustain us on the journey.”  pp.93
Life is not going to be perfect.  Unexpected things will happen.  Challenges and perhaps even tragedies will arise. But He will still sustain us.  He wants to heal our hurts.  Free us from our past.  Release us from bitterness.
"You don't have to have life all figured out; you only have to take one step at a time.  God will give you just enough light for the step you're on, and every time you put your hand in His, you'll know you've got a solid hold on your future." pp.175
Last night as I drove home from Girl Scouts.  My heart was filled with so much peace.  It was like God was literally pouring it out over me.  I wanted to wrap it around me like a cozy blanket and never move.  Reading this book today as been like a confirmation of everything I have felt Him whispering to my soul over the past several weeks.

I still don't know what the coming weeks and months are going to look like.  But I know He is right there with me.  I know that for today, for this moment, I am walking in His light and His truth.  And that's all any of us can do.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"

Matthew 6:25-27 NIV

daybook.... January 13 edition

 www.thesimplewoman.blogspot.com
Linking up today with the Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... its still dark...the sky is just beginning to lighten.  It must be pretty chilly out there.  The kids have a 2 hour delay.

I am thankful... for friends.  I remember a time where I felt so lonely.  Since moving back home to NY 9ish years ago God has brought so many amazing women into my life.  I am thankful I live near my mom and dad.  And my sister and her husband.  And {hopefully} within a few months, my brother and his family.  Family is everything.

I am wearing... Pj's and Pampered Chef sweatshirt.  Coffee in hand ;)

I am creating... my nephew's quilt.  It has turned from a "Welcome to the World" gift to a "Happy First Birthday" gift.  And he's going to need it moving from AZ to NY in the WINTER!!!! BRRRR Been there done that! ;)

I am wondering... if I should run the Syracuse Half.  It seems so close when I think about the reality of it.

I am reading...
  • Little House on the Prairie with Hannah
  • Jan/Feb issue of Runner's World (Thanks Kelly!!)
  •  The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane; a somewhat random choice the Mister picked up for me for Christmas
  • the book of John, with SheReadsTruth
  • The Runner's Devotional
 I am hoping...
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm 25:5

I am learning... that God will provide.  Just yesterday He showed me in a dozen little ways just how much He has my back.  God is Good.  All the Time.

Around the house... the kids are driving me crazy :P Two hour delays make for loooonnngggg mornings!

In the kitchen...   Yesterday's breakfast... Ham and Egg Sammies on bagels...so good! I LOVE my microwave egg cooker!

I am pondering... my devotions from yesterday, and Sunday's sermon.  All wonderfully intertwined.  One of those ways God shows me how much he cares about my silly little worries  The sermon Sunday was called A Place Called Heaven. Such a timely message and a great reminder that Heaven is a real place.  That this life is so fleeting in the overall scheme of things.  {Incidentally you can listen to it if you are interestedby clicking the sermon title}.

A favorite quote for today...
I have come that you may have Life and have it to the Full.
John 10:10b

One of my favorite things...  sitting at my kitchen table with my coffee.  Getting lost in God's Word.

A peek into one of my days from last week...snuggled in Hannah's bed reading Little House on the Prairie <3

Look for the Light

Last night I finished up my December video.  It made me so happy.  I love looking back  and seeing all the good.  The fun.  The laughter.  Mornings like today where I am feeling a bit overwhelmed, I need reminding of all the good times.  They outweigh the bad by far.

Below is a comment I received on the video <3
"It's so funny how life can try to hold someone down and drag them through the mud but when you look at the whole picture ( which is why I love pictures and video) you see all the good shining through. Fighting like a little leaf holding onto the branch in the fall. Not giving up and not letting go. That's what you remind me of in this current season you are in right now. That little leaf in the bare tree hanging on long after all the rest fall away. You won't let the wind take you away. You are fighter, my friend. I love that about you."
God is good. He has a plan.

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.  John 8:12

Thank you I don't have to walk in the Dark.  That you are my LIGHT.

When in Doubt...

I am struggling with doubt and discouragement today. But God's working on me...

Sisters, in the midst of our own unknowns and “what if’s”, God doesn’t ask us to calculate His success rate or take matters into our own hands. He simply wants us to come hungry.
Doubt is woven into the natural rhythm of faith, but it is never the end. Size up your situation, and doubt overcomes. Size up the cross, and see that doubt has been overcome.
{from #SheReadsTruth | John Day 7}
I saw this on an instagram post this morning.  And despite the fact its nothing new...it really struck me today.

Gratitude turns everything into enough.

I am realizing again, how important perspective and attitude/gratitude are.   Driving to work this morning, my heart was beginning to feel a bit lighter.  There is always something to be thankful for.  I am reminded to Believe. To be Faithful. To watch for His guidance...

Today I am thankful:
  • for warm blankets
  • a little extra time to spend in the Word
  • bright blue sky
  • Instagram....I draw so much encouragement for others' posts
  • I have a Pampered Chef party coming up
  • friends who pray
  • access to a treadmill in this frigid weather

He Knows
from the album He Knows (Single)
All the bitter weary ways
endless striving day by day
you barely have the strength to pray
in the valley low

how hard your fight has been
how deep the pain within
wounds that no one else has seen
hurts too much to show

all the doubt you're standing in between
And all the weight that brings you to your knees

HE KNOWS, HE KNOWS
EVERY HURT AND EVERY STING
HE HAS WALKED THE SUFFERING
HE KNOWS, HE KNOWS
LET YOUR BURDENS COME UNDONE
LIFT YOUR EYES UP TO THE ONE
WHO KNOWS
HE KNOWS

we may faint and we may sink
feel the pain and near the brink
but the dark begins to shrink
when you find the one who knows

the chains of doubt that held you in between
one by one are starting to break free

every time that you feel forsaken
every time that you feel alone
He is near to the broken hearted
every tear
He knows…
