Wow, does life feel overwhelming right now.  Things I know for sure.

God is faithful.

God has a plan.

God is going to work everything together for good. (Eventually).

God sees the big picture, while I am staring at this little piece of the puzzle that doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

But I am trusting...

Here's some good going on~

This bread has brought me such delight this week! I baked a sourdough sandwich loaf on Monday night and have been enjoying it all week long. It makes tremendous breakfast sandwiches.

This guy- I have been watching God do amazing things in his life and heart the past week. And I am so thankful to call him my husband.

This book I have been slowly reading over the past couple months. The things we learned and talked about in my healing journey class on Wednesday night reminded me to pick it up again.  I wouldn't say its anything new or earth shattering but oh my it is a wonderful invitation with practical ideas at how to find more wonder and delight in our amazing God and his world. Because after all as I have been hearing everyday at the end of The Bible Recap videos- He's where the JOY is!

Shipping notice for the new Jaime Jo Wright book I pre-ordered!
An amazing two day birthday celebration from running 13.1 miles, to an afternoon with my kids, to feel loved and encouraged by my husband, to house church group, to a day out with my mom and sister. Check out my previous two entries if you missed them.

A 45 minute late night phone chat with my best friend. 💖

My church family. I love my church with an overwhelming love.  Its kept me there even when I didn't feel it because I know that is the place God has for me. Its more than a building. Its more than a random collection of acquaintances or even friends. Its Family. Family can be hard and messy. But the love is deep.

So in spite of feeling tired, and still slightly under the weather and worried about many things. I also have a full and thankful heart and am going to keep moving forward, walking in His light trusting that His plan is better than my plan.

Happy Friday friends. I am praying for you today. 💙

My birthday continued...

Monday was my birthday and I was off work for it. (Our company gives us our birthday as a holiday 💖).

My first order of business was to renew my driver license, so I headed there first thing.  After going over the paperwork I needed to bring about a gazillion times to make sure I had everything I needed. *Spoiler alert* I didn't.

I easily arrived, parked and got through security, confidently walked up to the counter and presented all my papers. The clerk started sorting through all the paperwork, laying everything out. Now keep in mind I had to upgrade as our state was switching over to a different form of ID to comply with homeland security, yada yada. So it was a little more involved than just signing and paying my fee to be privileged to drive for 8 more years. I had to bring two proofs of address, my current valid license (expiring that day!), proof of citizenship (ie birth certificate), social security card.  All of which I had... then she looked up and said- do you have your marriage license. No. Even though all my current and valid ID stated my married name. I needed the missing link of the marriage certificate to link my maiden name on my birth certificate, with my married name on everything else. So nothing else to do but turn around and go home and get it.  the real kicker is I even had it in hand that morning but didn't think I needed it and left it home.  After all I changed my name over 25 years ago, I thought it was pretty firmly established! :P

I was so annoyed but headed home, texting Mom and Laura this new development as we had plans to spend the rest of the day together. I listened to KLOVE on the drive and managed to shake off most of my annoyance.

I arrived back in less than an hour, the parking lot almost full I was a little anxious but the same clerk was open so I didn't have to explain. It was relatively painless and quick from there, she approved all the paperwork, I signed and had my photo taken. Then had to go the the cashier and have everything checked again and pay my fee.

Now for the FUN part! I headed for my parents house to pick up Mom. Then to meet my sister at the Thrifty Shopper.

We found a few treasures. Including a new blanket for Chancer. He's pretty happy about it.

After a little debate in the parking lot we decided on a near by mexican restaurant for lunch. As we headed down the road mom told me to turn left at the light. I promptly got into the right turn lane.
Um, did I say to turn left? Mom asked hesitantly.
Uh, yes. Yes, you did. I groaned. But I was committed at that point and we had to continue on several lights before we were afforded a chance to turn around. At which time Laura called.
Where are we going? she asked. She had followed when she saw me turning the wrong way and called confused, understandably. 😆
Mom told me to go left and I went right, I confessed. Totally my fault.
Oooohhhh, She laughed and said- It's not your fault (dripping with Laura-esq sarcasm.)  Happy birthday!
We arrived at our destination without further mishap or incident and enjoyed a delightful lunch.

From there we headed to Barnes and Noble. I had gift cards to use! I came away with three books and had to pay a little over $4 out of pocket. Mom also had a gift card and got a Charles Martin book.
My book haul

We decided to go to Joann Fabrics and check out the closing sales. We found this bookish fabric and I took what was left on the bolt- slightly under two yards. Hoping to make pajama pants but we'll see if I can squeeze a pair out of that yardage- may need to get creative.

I took mom home, came home to show Hannah my haul and then curled up to read and nap with the pups. I finished off the night with Yoga Faith at church and then made myself pancakes for dinner.

A delightful birthday all around (well minus the two trips to the DMV maybe 😆). Here's to 45!

Syracuse Half Recap! 2025

Our tenth half marathon and 6th Syracuse Half Marathon is in the books. Spoiler alert- I had a blast and finished feeling happy and proud!

I was disheartened last week to start coming down with a cold and spent most of the week feeling tired and blah. I was really hoping it would be out of my system by Sunday, it wasn't. I felt pretty grumpy Friday night to be heading into race/my birthday weekend feeling sub par.

I rallied a little when I met my sister (& nephew) for packet pickup.  Looking at my bib made me feel happy and excited. We snapped some pics and found or names on the wall.

Evan had to get in on the action too.

We parted ways in the parking lot.  Evan was apparently less than thrilled with the idea.

I headed to get groceries and then home to take it easy and hydrate.

Before bed I carefully planned and laid out my race gear. It was to be around 21 degrees at start time (brrrrr) I decided on a long sleeve and jacket, hat, fleece lined leggings.  Wearing my old running shoes because I did not get my new ones properly broken in and had not worn them for a run longer than two miles. Fruit snacks for fuel. I hoped my Stronger by the Mile shirt and Run Happy hat would inspire me 😉 And a previous Syracuse Half jacket to remind me, I could do this, I have done this! I did add a short sleeve top into the mix in the morning.

I went to bed early, hoping to wake up feeling halfway decent. But Bruno woke me up three times to go outside through out the night. After the last time just before 4 am, I just crashed on the couch and stayed there as long as possible before getting up to get ready.  I had a cup of coffee, and English muffin with peanut butter and honey. Rhett got up to wish me luck and pray over me before I headed off in the morning dark to Laura's house.

In only takes minutes to get to the race site from Laura's house and we arrived quickly and fairly easily.  We parked and made our way into the convention center. The line to the restroom was quite long so we decided to hop right in line and ended up waiting almost half an hour.

We waited until almost the last possible minute before heading out into the cold.

Start Line Selfie!

all the runners ahead of us at the start line

And then we were off! I was still feeling apprehensive as we began our first mile and it was so cold!

As we neared the Mile 1 marker Laura said she was going to take off, I waved my blessing, promising to listen to my tunes and enjoy the run. Although I felt pretty skeptical at that point still.  Mind you this is in the midst of probably the biggest hill on the course.  As soon as Laura pulled away, I slowed to a walk for the rest of the hill.

A few texts from Laura, as well as getting her status updates helped me still feel connected to her.

This guy carrying the US flag passed me pretty early on. It always impresses me, these guys running with the flag for 13 miles!

In the beginning of mile two I noticed these two ladies and we kept playing cat and mouse as I'd pass them and then a little while later they'd pass me. I quickly realized they were doing a run/walk cycle and decided to just tuck in behind them and follow as long as possible running when they ran and walking when they walked. I soon realized it was working! I was feeling good, and knowing a short walk break was coming helped me keep me going. I followed them for probably 2/3rds of the race and was astounded how good I felt and how quickly the time and miles were rolling by.

Side note: my watch never linked up.  So the only indicator I had of how I was doing time wise was the updates I got from the race app at every mile. I found these so helpful and encouraging!

Mile 7 I texted a selfie to Rhett telling him I was doing good!

In mile 8 a squirrel dashed across the street in front of me, it cracked me and the police officer at the intersection up. Looks like he wants to run the race too! He quipped. We shared a laugh as I trudged past.

I am so thankful for all the police officers and volunteers and spectators on the course.

Mile 9 I started to struggle to keep up with my unknowing pacers. By mile 10 they were long gone. Coincidently unbeknownst to me, my tracking also stopped working.

In mile 11 I was thinking about my sister and wondering if she'd finished. I pulled out my phone to see a notification at the tops of the screen saying she'd crossed mile 13 and then her FINISH notification popped up on my screen! I felt so happy to know she had finished and sent a quick text.

I kept running, I was next to another couple ladies and trying to stay with them to the finish. I was enjoying my music and continually telling myself I was almost there!

A few minutes later my phone started ringing in my earbud, I pulled it out of my pocket to see my sister's face on the screen.  After I answered her first questions was "Are you OK?!"
"Yeah I'm fine I answered, I'm crossing mile 12".
"Rhett and I were so worried! Your dot stopped moving!"

She told me she was headed to where they last saw my dot moving. I'm at Salt City Market, she said Did you pass it yet?  No but I could see it! We met up moments later and she  texted Rhett to let him know I was alive and well.  After running with me a couple blocks she cut back to the finish line to wait for me.

I made that final turn and I could see the blue and green finish in the distance. I wanted to go faster but felt like I just couldn't.  Just keep moving, you'll get there! I told myself.

Soon I saw Laura and grinned and waved as she snapped pictures of me heading into the finishers chute. I felt so triumphant crossing that finish line!

I texted Rhett and saw his distress text from a couple miles back.

Laura and I headed inside for post race snacks. We were severely disappointed to find out there were no pancakes this year and they had baked ziti instead. What?!? We wanted our pancakes, bacon and frozen syrup 😂  We did find the chocolate milk though.

We headed home feeling tired and cold but HAPPY!

Home I pulled in the drive way as Ryan was also arriving. We were celebrating my birthday, all the kids were coming and we were having pizza and wings YUM! I took a delightfully hot shower and donned my new race shirt for my birthday celebration.

Hannah made this exquisite cake

We sat at the table all afternoon, played games and chatted.

The kids gave me this painting of Bruno and Chance 💖

It was a spectacular day filled with delight!

running, baking and reading

Yesterday was my first canal run of the season. It did not go as I hoped.  First off my watch would not link. At. All. So no data. It felt generally super hard and not good. I did a good bit of walking.

But the sun was shining- it was around 60 degrees. Only two spots I came across were still snowy and icy. Some spots were very muddy and squishy.
I saw these two friends paddling along.

I know I did slightly more than two miles because I went to the first crossing, I considered going further without my watch to gage how far- I didn't. Which is silly. But I was getting very grumpy and frustrated. I walked to library free library at the next house instead- just to look.  There wasn't anything I was interested in anyway.  And headed back.

I finished with the run feeling a bit better. I considered continuing on the other way but didn't. I came home feeling a little sad, lonely and defeated.

I ate dinner with the dogs and watched an episode and a half of Gilmore Girls.

But I am proud I followed through on most of my evening routine after that bit of wallowing. I cleaned the microwave and stove top, swept the kitchen floor and mixed up some sourdough bagel dough.  I did a 10 minute bedtime yoga and started reading Built to Move.

This morning  before work I finished my bagels and my healing journey homework for tonight.

Today I am reading Spark of the Revolution and loving it! I heard about it on the Faith and Fables podcast.  I immediately checked it out. Its available on Kindle Unlimited (also available in paperback).  It takes place in the time around the Boston Tea Party. It's making we want to re-read Gabrielle Meyer's book When the Time Comes and also dive into my George Washington biography.

I hope you have an enjoyable Wednesday and that the sun is shining wherever you are. Talk to you soon. 💙

8 Miles!

Laura and I did 8 miles on Saturday, followed by pizza at Mom and Dad's. It was sunny and windy and mostly enjoyable.

It left me feeling slightly more confident for the Half in two weeks. (We plan to do ten miles this coming Saturday followed by chinese food). The miles also left me thinking we are making the right choice in making this our last half. I think we are just over it at this point. My goal for this race, is to finish feeling happy and proud. And then concentrate on getting healthier and stronger each day.  I still will run but for the enjoyment and fresh air and the way it makes me feel- not the frustration and stress of trying to fit in long runs into a already busy life.

I hope to get back to more sister coffee dates, and lunches with my girls. But these Saturday morning runs have been good for my soul- as well as the time after spending time with Mom and Dad.

I finally took a few minutes to do my March page in my planner- it brings me great joy.

Hannah made croissants yesterday and I used one to make an amazing breakfast sandwich this morning.

I finished my 5th book of the Bible with the Bible Recap this morning.

I just finished Onyx Storm.  I'm not sure how I feel- still processing.

I'm listening to Being Elisabeth Elliot and I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet either. I read a couple comments which perplexed and concerned me so I had to dive in and find out for myself.

Tonight's dinner is Stromboli and Caesar Salad. I made it this morning and Hannah's going to bake it while I am at yoga tonight. =)

It is currently 51 and sunny.  The walk to the post office was glorious.  That's all for today. 💙
