simple things

This weekend we went to visit Grammy & Pa. It was good.  It had been a while since we had been there for a visit.  This time was a little different.  It was rather quiet.  I missed seeing all the cousins & my siblings.  Sometimes when you grow up, life gets in the way of those carefree days at Grammy & Pa's.  It was good seeing all the family that could be there though.  There is no place you feel more loved than at Grammy and Pa's.

Sunday Mikayla played piano at Grammy and Pa's church for special music.  It always gives me joy to hear her play.

Mom was helping Grammy do a little cleaning out.  I came home with this treasure...

A rarely used Iced Tea Maker that had been tucked away in a cabinet for goodness knows how long..  I love Iced Tea, and make it frequently...I have thought about buying one but have never been able to justify it.  It is destined to make me lots and lots of iced tea this summer! :)

I also received a little recipe box, handmade by my Pa.

PhotobucketThis afternoon back home I spent the afternoon outside, weeding the garden.  Planted a few flower seeds, looking forward to transplanting them soon into my waiting flower beds.  I am eager to see all the bright cheery faces.

It took some looking but I finally found these sunflower seeds I had purchased from one of the children's fundraisers. :)  I can hardly wait to see them blooming along the deck!  I hope to improve my gardening skills this year.  I do know that I shall have to invest in a pair of gardening gloves.  My right had is stained and sore and very slightly swollen from yanking all those weeds.  I did enjoy the quiet beauty of our yard though...  My heart exceeding grateful for our home.

50 years and counting

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of our Church.  I know I have said before how much I love our church, I truly do.  I have attended and visited a handful of churches but none as quite felt like home like Community Wesleyan in Kirkville.

Church

This is the place where I grew up.  The place where I grew in my faith.  This is where my roots and my heritage are.  My grandparents were one of the couples who had the vision in the beginning.  They were there when Community Wesleyan was born.  It makes me proud to be part of that heritage.  To know yesterday at the celebration service there were four generations sitting together in the same pew.  My Grandma (how I wish Grandpa was still with us as well) my parents, my husband and myself, and our three wonderful children.

I have been apart of this Church since I was 8 years old, not counting the few years where the Marine Corps had us located else where...even at those times though, Kirkville was where I considered my home.  I look forward to the future to see what us in store in the coming years.  It made my heart glad to see new members officially welcomed into the family yesterday during service.  One of them being my newest and dearest friend.  Its exciting to look at our children and see the future.

I am enjoying being the teacher for the k-1 class.  I don't fancy myself to be a great teacher.  But I do love them, I hope they are learning something from me.  I get the feeling they love me back too ;) They too are the future.

It made my heart smile to hear Mikayla  remark later on at the dinner that she would be there to see the 100th anniversary of the Church...In my heart I hope I shall be too.

quilt happy

I finished the nephew's quilt this week. I worked feverishly on it to finish in time for Mom and Dad to take it down this weekend. I wish I could have delivered in person but this is the next best thing.

The finished product~~

I love the way it gets fluffy and puckery after it is freshly laundered and ready for lovin' from its recipient.

Mom sent me several picture txts yesterday of the new bundle of joy. Including one of him chilling on his new quilt. It made my heart blissfully happy.

for shame

It is Monday. I unearthed my "Gifts Journal" and realize a week has passed. Not one gift have I penned. I sit, pen in hand, thinking over the past week. It was definitely one of trials, would it have been less so if I had been more conscious of the gifts...

Here are a few I recall thinking back...
  • reconnecting with the housewives, being able to lift each other in prayer
  • memories--- looking back at pictures as I sort and save them from the computer
  • making ribbons for the kids praise number on Palm Sunday
  • watching the kids Palm Sunday Celebration
  • Hannah's enthusiasm in dance and song
  • The girls eagerly requesting to hear the rest of the story in Sunday School
  • Feeling chills and shivers as I shared the Easter Story with my Sunday School class.
  • Playing with preschoolers in the nursery
  • Having a van to lend to the youth group
  • Hearing how our teens responded to the message at Spring Fling
  • Our wet chilly Easter Egg Hunt
  • Watching five eager children hunt for eggs
  • a time of relaxing and visiting with a dear friend
  • blueberry coffee treats ;)
